Geneseo Planning Board to review Newman DEIS Monday

The Geneseo Town Planning Board has scheduled a special work meeting for Monday, August 27, at 7 p.m. In anticipation of a big crowd, the meeting has been scheduled for the courtroom of the Geneseo Building, 119 Main St, rather than at the new Town offices on 20A.

The reason a crowd is expected is that the Town Planning Board will be making a determination as to whether the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) submitted by Newman Development Group is complete. A determination that the DEIS is complete would mean that the Planning Board would proceed in future meetings to considering the environmental impacts of Newman’s proposal.

Please Don’t Destroy Geneseo has completed its review of the DEIS and has concluded that Newman failed to complete at least six studies required of it by the Planning Board, including critical studies of traffic and the effects of this proposal on future retail development in the Gateway. Without these studies, the Planning Board and the community will not be able to assess the impacts of Newman’s proposal.

A copy of PDDG’s analysis is available online on The PDDG File. In addition, a copy of a Livingston County News article summarizing these findings is available here.
