Public hearing on village master plan Tuesday

In the wake of the County Planning Board’s failure to reconsider its disapproval of the Village of Geneseo Master Plan last week (See previous post below), the village will hold a public hearing on the plan Tuesday night at 8 p.m. in the Geneseo Building.

The 70 page plan can be downloaded as a pdf here. A printout is also available for free at the village office.

The most controversial part of the new plan is the replacement of the existing C-2 zoning district on Rt. 20A by a new MU (Mixed Use) commercial district. The existing C-2 has no size limitations on commercial buildings which is why we now have a 200,000 square foot Super Wal-Mart in the village.

The proposed plan does not state any specific size limitation for the MU district but does indicate that new development should be of “mid-range” scale. It also recommends that detailed architectural standards be adopted so that any new development be “reflective of of the historic nature of Geneseo.”

After the hearing, the village board could pass the Master Plan over the county’s objections with a so-called “supermajority” vote. That would require at least 4 of the 5 village board members to vote in favor.
